Wrist Heart Rate Monitor Not Working at Rest

Hi all.

Got my new 245 Music on Tuesday and I've noticed that its not picking up my heart rate at rest. I've had a couple of runs and it eventually starts recording but then stops again once i've cooled down. I have contacted the retailer and am going through the warranty process but I was wondering are there any other users having the same problem.

Garmin support have tried to help me get it working to no avail.

Should I just send it back?

Also worth noting that while it is reading heart rate when running it only kicks in after a couple of minutes

I'm a first timer garmin user using 245 Music. Same issue also happens to me. Now my HR monitor only shows 2 strips (no HR monitor) whenever i'm not doing activities (running).

Whenever i start running, during the initial startup (gps trying to lock, until gps shows green) the HR sensor still not reading my heart rate. Only after i run several hundred meters like few minutes then the HR monitor started reading again.

Tried several methods like stop/start wrist HR monitor, also tried restarting the watch, all to no avail.

What's the diagnose from Garmin support for your issue?

I'm thinking to go through warranty process as well if this is caused by hardware issue.

I have had 10 Garmin running watches over the last 20 years and I just upgraded from the 235 to the 245. I have also had problems with the heart rate monitor not registering when I am at rest. I contacted Garman and he suggested doing a soft reset. This is done by holding the power button down until the screen goes blank. As you are holding it a screen will be come up asking if you want assistance just keep holding it until the screen is blank. Wait Wait for a minute and then restart the watch. I have found this to activate the heart rate monitor, but it still seems to quit working after a short period of time. I will be contacting Garmin tech-support again on Monday.

  • I have had similar problems.  I only use the device when I run:  Resting HR is not of importance to me.
    but...
The wrist sensor worked tolerably well with prior firmware.  There was a lag, but it eventually seemed to "grab" and record HR when I was running.  This now fails:  HR varies all over the place, and is clearly 30-60 BPM higher than reality.

3.70 broke something.  One does hope that Garmin knows this and will fix it.  Wrist HR is the reason I replaced my venerable 230 in the first place.  And, wrist HR is now completely worthless.
