Garmin 245: Poor Manufacturing (Flawed out-of-the-box)

This is admittedly not a huge problem, but is fairly frustrating. I just purchased a Garmin Forerunner 245 (non-music). I tried the 245M, but had the sticky button issue. I then used a Forerunner 45 which was okay, but my wife is now using. Decided to give the 245 line another go.

I just unboxed it this morning and have not run or exercised at all with it, and already it has a decent scuff/dent in the body of it. It has not been moved, absent laying it on a microfiber to set it up. It's in the front left lug, and is visible when the watch is sitting on your wrist.

Again, this is a small, cosmetic issue - but on watches this expensive, it's pretty amazing. You'd never get an Apple Watch with a dent out of it out-of-the-box.

  • Your glass cover sits too high in the shell.

  • You sure, it's a brand new watch? Looks like one that's already been used

  • Looks like you got a free face protector with it. Something isn't right

Did you put on the glass protector? If so maybe you pushed to hard to get the bubbels out? if not that screen protector is not included with a new watch. Contact the place where you bought it maybe they gave you a returned watch.

Also there is a lot of dust in the band. For me this watch is worn. If not by you then someone else.

  • To clarify, it was brand new - I purchased it from a retail store and I know (because I had called them earlier) that the shipment was just delivered at the end of this week from the supplier. So it's definitely new. The screen protector I added, obviously - as with all my electronics, the first thing I did before strapping it to my wrist is add a screen protector. It had been out of the box for probably 10 minutes, total. Very strange all the accusations - what is the motive here to lie about something like this? Anyway.

Former Member - that isn't the worst idea, but if that was the case I'd be pretty disappointed (if the material could be dented simply by the force needed to apply a screen protector). The dust is just a fragment of my apartment (undergoing construction).

Regardless, Garmin Support generously agreed to replace it, so hopefully the new model is back to normal.

You'd never get an Apple Watch with a dent out of it out-of-the-box.

Are you saying Apple has never shipped a watch with a manufacturer's defect?

  • Looks from the picture more like thermal and not mechanical damage. But hard to say from photo.

Btw - buttons OK? My 245 non music middle button is strange "double click feeling". Is Garmin accepting claims? Thx..

  • You might want to try and google "new apple watch with scratch out of the box". You will be surprised.
