Spotify Music Quality on 245 Music

has anyone seen what sort of encoding Garmin forces Spotify downloads to undergo?  There's definitely a significant downgrade in the file quality.  I'm using Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds and there's a huge difference between the sound on the 245 Music versus my S10+.

  • It's been flawless for me, I'm very surprised how good it sounds. Potentially your phone has equaliser settings the watch can't carry? Or maybe check download quality settings in Spotify is "very high"

  • good question! Do you have any new experience in this case?

I have this question too. However, your connection between your S10+ and Sennheisers is likely using a different Bluetooth codec (such as AAC or Aptx)_, while the connection to the watch is just SBC. This may be what your are noticing. Set your phone to SBC and see if you can still tell a difference.

  • Agree, Music quality is substantially lower on Garmin 245 than on my iPhone 7.

Also i lack equalizer or at least bass boost (loudness). I have a pair of Jaybird Run buds.

Should be easy to add possibility to download in high quality, and also to add a playback options menu with at least bass boost.

I have actually started bringing my Iphone on the runs to have a decent experience, so pretty major failure there for Spotify/Garmin.

If quality of music is your key criteria in a sports watch you may be disappointed. Garmin have added music to allow you to leave your phone at home while working out. I for one am perfectly happy with the quality of music that it provides, I can hear the instruments and the voices perfectly fine with bone conducting headphones. I just need something to keep me going while running, not feel like I'm at a concert.

Why not boost your bass with the Jaybird App. That's what I do. It stores the EQ settings in the earbuds. An additional bass boost on the watch wouldn;t hurt though ....

  • I have test Spotify, Deezer and 320 kbps mp3.

    Treble is harshed.

Notice it also with different headphones.

It is all what Garmin uses on its hardware/ software dsp.

    Can that be fixed?

How do you know what quality Garmin downloads the music at? I'd rather have fewer songs, but better sound quality from 320kbps

  • Since Garmin cuts down the quality you won't have a benefit from Spotify high quality, which btw is about 160 ogg

  • Since Garmin cuts down the quality you won't have a benefit from Spotify high quality

How do you know this?  Is it something you can reference?  I use Bose Sound Free earbuds and the quality is great.  I notice no difference if I'm streaming with my watch or phone.  I set my downloadable music from Spotify to "very high" which is 320 kbps. Downloading the same playlist at a lower quality takes less space.

I have test Spotify, Deezer and 320 kbps mp3.

I just checked my personal 320 kbps music from my watch's music folder and they are still at 320 kbps.  What makes you say Spotify or Deezer's downloads are cut down by Garmin?
