What are activity alerts in the audio prompts menu?

In the 245 (Music) user manual, all it seems to say about this is, "To hear activity alerts play as an audio prompt, select Activity Alerts."

What are activity alerts exactly? Thanks!

  • Activity alerts are things like low/high HR alerts, or distance/time alerts.

    "Alerts

You can set alerts for each activity, which can help you to train toward specific goals, to increase your awareness of your environment, and to navigate to your destination. Some alerts are available only for specific activities. There are three types of alerts: event alerts, range alerts, and recurring alerts.

    Event alert

An event alert notifies you once. The event is a specific value. For example, you can set the device to alert you when you reach a specified distance.

    Range alert

A range alert notifies you each time the device is above or below a specified range of values. For example, you can set the device to alert you when your heart rate is below 60 beats per minute (bpm) and over 210 bpm.

    Recurring alert

A recurring alert notifies you each time the device records a specified value or interval. For example, you can set the device to alert you every 30 minutes."

  • Thanks for the response. So just to confirm I understand: if activity alerts in the audio prompts menu are turned off, they will just show up on the watch (and vibrate the watch), but if they are turned on as audio prompts, there will be an audible prompt through my headphones, as well?

Also, do I need to enable (or disable) "On-device Alerts" in the audio prompts menu in the Garmin Connect app on my phone for this? Confused about how these settings fit together. My watch (245M) is connected to my phone, not directly to my headphones, if that makes a difference.

    Thanks!
