Whr sensor light always on and draining battery

Hi has anybody noticed that wrist heart rate sensor light always on in there forerunner 235 . I thinks its draining my battery around 15% per hour . My forerunner used to last upto week before 4.2 firmware upgrade .
  • However, those versions are the same as what are running on my FR235, and as far as I'm aware Garmin Express hasn't got anything more recent awaiting my approval or syncing.

That would have sufficed. Thanks for the info.
Will see how I get on in the coming days.
  • Firmware 4.6
    GPS 3.00
    Display 2.10
    Bluetooth 2.20
    WHR 2.70

Matches to my version numbers also.. but WHR is always on for me now. So looks like updating to 4.60 doesn't always cause this WHR issue. I guess something else got messed up in my update
  • I wonder if there is a way of reinstalling an update, in case it never worked properly.
I've tried fully resetting it, but that doesn't reinstall the updates again.

Matches my versions too..my battery is messed up have to recharge my watch daily if i want my heartrate.. :(
  • Well this one lost about 2 percent overnight.
So looks good for now unless anything changes.

I would suggest you raise a proper support call with garmin and get it replaced. Would be good if you can link to this thread and have them properly examine the watch so they can identify if it is hardware or whether something went wrong with the update process.

Mine went back via the retailer unfortunately before I realised mine wasn't a once off.

  • Tried today new 4.70 or 5.04b versions.. Still always on WHR. Almost ready to return my watch back to retailer.

I'm running 5.04. I have "always on" WHR out of choice.
However I tried Settings, Heart Rate Monitor, Off and the green light goes off.

So if your light stays on, I would try
    Powering cycling the device
    Try again
If still no good, do a master reset
    Try again
If still no good, seek a replacement device

There's no problem turning WHR to off (from "auto"). Turning WHR "off" will turn green light off.

Issue is that prior v4.60 update, battery lasted for ~7 days, if you used Forerunner 235 just as a watch + 24/7 HR. You could see WHR green light were turning on and off periodically,
if you were just sitting in "watch face"- screen.

Now, since v4.60 update (and sensor hub v2.70 update), WHR green light is always on. It's no longer turning on and off periodically, in watch mode. This affects on battery life, and battery is depleted in one day.
  • Well that's odd as I charged mine overnight and the battery gauge is still showing full battery about 12 hours later.
