Forerunner 165 keeps disconnecting from phone

I just got this watch a few weeks ago and from the beginning I've been having trouble keeping it connected to my iphone 11. I want to get notifications on my watch but I almost never get them, save for a few seemingly random ones throughout the day. I have checked all the notification settings in both the garmin connect app and my phone, and everything appears correct. I have tried all the other fixes found online like deleting the app, resetting the watch to factory settings, restarting phone, etc. and none of it seems to work. Any ideas? I'm honestly on the verge of returning it because this is very annoying.

  • Is it loosing the BT connection ? When I had similar with my 965 I deleted it from phone BT and removed the app and re-paired and it seemed to help

  • When I go into bluetooth settings on my phone it always appears connected. When I go in thru the Garmin app it occasionally will look like it's disconnected and i have to refresh. But either way I have tried everything including deleting bluetooth and the app and repairing and nothing seems to work.

  • If you are using an Android phone, try go to your phone settings => applications => garmin connect => authorization => Location : Always authorized (Note that I'm translating from French, I'm not sure about the exact English wording, but this is the idea) 

    This fixed all connection issues with my phone for my 165 (and also for my Edge 530)
