Nap detection not working.

I know it's been discussed before... but nap detection doesn't seem to be working like it used to Disappointed Disappointingly, one of the other threads was closed with instructions to contact support if it's not working. It doesn't seem like Garmin is interested in fixing this? Please listen to your customers, there are others that have had the issue for a while and it's on several different models. And the forum is very quiet ito any Garmin representatives replying to issues.

Body battery detects rest, but not a nap. The watch is on v23.20

The 32m low stress period should have registered as a nap, even though it was a relatively light one, so I can understand why it registered as rest.

It's correct that the other period wasn't a nap and registered as rest.

It worked about 2 weeks ago when I was already on 23.20. It seems to be hit and miss. I had a look at some older data and it's difficult to tell what the criteria is. Some naps didn't change body battery, while others even drained it. I'm guessing it looks at a combination of factors to determine if it's a nap or not. I just know it was more reliable i.t.o. correctly detecting naps on older firmware. I was on 20.32 for a long time before installing 23.20.

You're welcome to contact me to access the data to investigate.

  • Found a post that says HR / Stress spikes can make nap detection fail, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. HR was relatively low as well as stress.

Compared to when it detected a nap (24 May).

  • And now I have an example of it detecting sitting still as a nap, which is understandable if I look at the graphs. I was sitting at a table reading. I guess it's difficult with a wrist-based device to get it correct 100% of the time. But it does seem like it used to work a bit better in the past.

It would be nice if I had the ability to edit this directly on the watch. E.g. change a nap into rest, change rest into a nap or delete a nap. And if the watch could learn from it and adapt, e.g. save what my data looks like for a typical nap and save those thresholds.

  • And this afternoon it worked, even though it was a light nap. Would still be nice to have the editing options available on the watch.

  • The last couple of naps were detected as expected. Maybe it needed time to adjust.

  • Here's an interesting one. Set a nap timer manually so I wouldn't oversleep. I was lying on the couch and didn't fall asleep. Increased body battery points for the rest and 'nap'. I'm guessing it would only have detected the rest and not a nap if I hadn't set the timer. I think this might be a case where it would be handy to delete the nap. Or maybe it's a cheat code to get extra body battery points :P
