Update 21.20 v02 max issue

Since the update to 21.20, the v02 max is reading very wrong. Initially it dropped a few points, but now I note that every walk is recording my v02 max as poor, despite my heart rate not being elevated at all. Also note that treadmill runs are affecting v02max, when they absolutely shouldn't be.

Garmin, what's happened to the v02max on this watch? I've been working hard to get it increasing and now every walk/treadmill is recording incorrectly and pulling the stats down. As far as I know, heart rate needs to be over 70% max for 10 mins or more to start recording? I walked today and heart rate barely elevated over resting and it's recorded and pulled my v02max down again. Please help!

  • I noticed mine is going down as well on walks. But I'm walking the dog so it's not a consistent pace, and I took 2 weeks off exercise to recover, so it's expected. Now, if your HR is barely above resting when walking then something definitely is likely wrong with that...either the watch or of some medication you're taking. Even if your fitness is through the roof and your resting is 40-45, then walking should jump you at least into the 60's

Has anyone reached out to you regarding this? My v02 is decreasing with every single walk I go on now.  I have a fenix 6s. It has never affected v02 on a walk before

  • No, I've heard nothing from anyone. To reference the first person to reply to me - the statement about my heart rate was to say it's not at the 70% of max for 10 mins which i believe was the "cut off" for recording and updating v02max. There's nothing wrong with my heart nor is is medication!

Basically every walk i do, with my heart rate nowhere near the published cut off for measuring, is lowering my v02max figure. It's recording my heart rate much as before during walks/runs etc, but since the update a walk is pulling it down....every time.

Garmin - some help here please?
