Capturing temperature in running activity log - new (and unreported) feature?

After today's run I noticed in my Strava upload something that hasn't appeared previously and this is temperature being captured along with the usual cadence, HR, elevation etc. Sure enough it's in my Garmin Connect activity log as a new chart too.

Have I inadvertently enabled this feature, or is a result of my watch (FR165) firmware being updated to v21.19 (from v20.32) overnight? That said, it's not in the release notes. Either way, does anyone know if it is possible to disable this? I can see from the figures captured that it is pretty useless as it is clearly just what the watch sensed and so beared little resemblance to the temperature I was actually running in (it was a steady 12°C) given the influence of body temp, residual heat from having just left the house etc, and so I think my OCD would be more comfortable if it didn't do this!

  • I posted this question on another forum and a user confirmed than on his 965 (so different watch) he could enable/disable 'Record Temperature' within the Activity settings. Sure enough, the manual for the 165 also implies this however all I get offered is:

    - Data Screens
    - Alerts
    - Laps
    - Auto Pause
    - Self Evaluation
    - Running Power
    - Satellites
    - Touch
    - Power Save Timeout
    - Accent Colour
    - Rename
    - Restore Defaults

Is the inability to enable/disable recording of temperature as a configurable option on the FR165 a bug? Even if not, could it be something that could be introduced in a future FW revision?

  • Having spoken with others I am confident this is definitely a bug. How do I report it for review? Will this post be seen by Garmin?

I tried contacting customer support via live chat but the poor guy who was assigned to me was juggling multiple customers at the same time and so seemingly didn't have time to fully understand what I was saying. He kept pointing me towards guidance on how to customise data screens, or telling me why temperature recording has its limitations etc, but neither of these address the issue I am reporting.
