HRM-RUN stopped working suddenly

I've had an HRM-Run since December. It was working fine until Wednesday when it took several minutes for my Fenix 6X Pro to recognise it.

Since then it seems invisible to the watch. I've changed the battery. It worked once but nothing since.

I've checked for the corrosion thing but there's none of that.

Could it be to do with 16.60 and *** assortment of issues? If not, any ideas.

Thank you very much.

  • It's dying.  I've had it happen to one of mine and replaced it -- problem disappeared. I'm on the current firmware and haven't had trouble with my strap, so.....

The stupid-high reading happened with mine too; I thought it was a glitch but in retrospect should have binned the thing and replaced it immediately.  It managed to screw up my lactate threshold and VO2 readings and it wasn't until I replaced it that they went back to normal.

  • How often have you been washing the strap?

  • As per the instructions. Under the tap after every run and a proper wash every seven. I make sure to keep the unit out of the water and just wipe the strap on the back of it.

I can't see that any water has got in.

BTW, the hand gel worked once. The unit isn't working again now even after trying a second new battery.

  • It's good to know that it works wih the new firmware. I was concerned as mine started acting up just a day after the update.

  • How do I find the serial number? Looking online most places say just look at the device number in setting but mine is no longer connected?

  • How do I find the serial number?

Garmin replaced mine. They didn't need the old one back. Only needed proof of purchase. I just used the model number as the serial number - A02293

Unless you've removed it from your watch, it should still be listed under Sensors and Accessories. It will say something like "HR - 999999 Not Connected."

If you really need the serial number, you can use something like FIT File Viewer to open and view a fit file from your watch under the \GARMIIN\ACTIVITY folder. It will be in the "device_info" section of the file. Look for the row(s) with source_type = antplus. Although the serial number is not the same as what is displayed on the watch.

I make sure to keep the unit out of the water and just wipe the strap on the back of it.

Same here. I believe the electronics on this device are not sealed properly. After rinsing I also remove the red cover to make sure any moisture has a chance to evaporate before the next activity. Regardless of your efforts, water might find a way in, especially if your activities are in a hot climate and you're sweating a lot. If you replace the battery, make sure the O-ring is properly aligned and the screws are snug without over-tightening.

  • Same here... I ordered a new one and with it all was fine....

  • Thanks for that. I've found the s/n and emailed Garmin.

I've been doing some digging and found some posts over on Reddit that suggest an issue with bluetooth connectivity after the 16.60 update. That would also explain why  my watch and phone have lost connection at times this past week too. Hasn't happened once before this.

Need to go back to 15.20 I think but might wait a while to see if Garmin fix 16.60

  • Have you tried connecting it using ANT+?
