My HRM Pro does not sync steps, heart rate or intensity minutes

Hi,

I recently bought the new HRM Pro HR Strap and connected it to my phone (iphone xs max), Garmin Connect App and my Watch, Fenix 5 Plus sapphire.

It's connected to my watch via ant+ and to my phone/garmin app via bluetooth and all the connections seems to work fine. I can start an activity on my watch and get readings from the HRM Pro, heart rate, steps, cadence etc. But when I only wear the strap without the watch it doesn't update the watch or my Garmin app with stored heart rate, steps and intensity minutes, which was the main reason i got the HRM Pro.

As an example, this morning i woke up and hit the bath room, brushed my teeth and looked at the watch - 246 steps. I did a little test, took of my watch, put on my HRM Pro strap and went to the grocery store approximately 250m away (should end up in 500m return - left both my phone and watch home) When I got back, I started the Garmin App and could se both my watch and my HRP Pro connected to the app, but nothing happened with the step count nor the heart rate. I saw it tried to sync my watch but nothing changed when it came to steps.

So my question - am I doing it wrong? Or is something wrong with the strap? Isn't this one of the main features wit the HRM Pro to be able to leave your watch at home while going to the office, store or just taking a walk without starting an activity and then download the data to your app and watch via true-up?

If anyone has encountered the same problem, please hit me up. Frustrating as ***.

Thanks

Jonas

  • Works fine broadcasting hr to garmin devices, but won't sync to the app independently.

Not sure if your issue is of the same nature, but I struggled with the same issue, which got resolved once I enabled location service on my phone (for some reason my f6 can sync with the app with location turned off, but not the hrm-pro). So make sure you have location turned on.

    1. Thanks but not the issue here..it was all working fine until it wasn't,  with no phones setting changes etc.
  • yep mines intermittent. If i use the strap away from my watch for an activity it seems to sync the heart rate. but the steps it only syncs sometimes and the intensity minutes it only syncs sometimes. Same if i just wear the strap to track general activity tracking, sometimes it syncs sometimes its says its synced but the data isn't there. Garmin support were completely unhelpful. they said there was no known error and to make sure strap was up to date. (which it is). For a brand new strap and over £750 of equipment i would expect  it to work every time. I'm not sure how Garmin think they can get away with it. I think I'm going to return my hrm for a refund as Garmin support don't seem to be able to help. Please post if you mange to find a solution.

  • I've done some experimenting with mine and i think the issue with is. If i start an activity wearing the strap and then move out of range of my watch (leave it in my car for example whilst i go do  a cardio workout) then come back to the watch mark the cardio session as finished. the strap and watch sync okay. the steps and intensity minutes are recorded correctly from the strap and added to garmin connect and the watch.

However if i start the activity waring the strap and leave the watch in my bag but within range of the strap then mark the cardio session as finished the steps and intensity minutes aren't recorded from the strap. its as tough it thinks i've been wearing the watch and ignores the steps and intensity minutes from the HRM. It does capture the heart rate data from the strap though.

It seems that if the strap is within range of the watch during an activity it doesn't record steps or intensity minutes.

This appears to be a bug that Garmin will probably not fix.

  • I did that right now, because I encountered the same problem with my activities realized with Tacx and my Flux 2 S. I deleted the HRM PRO from my Garmin App on my iPhone, delete it in the Bluetooth menu, then I searchedit back on my Garmin App. Everything has been updated... :)

    Thanks !
