Zwift Cog and Click for my Tacx Neo 2T

This all started when I was trying to find a Zwift Click/Cog upgrade kit for my Tacx Neo 2T. Just when I was about to give up, I discovered that Garmin had just what I was looking for… or so I thought.

After placing an order for the cog and click on the Garmin website, I had barely released the submit button when I received an email that the order had been canceled. It was suggested that I try again. Unfortunately, the second time around, the result was the same. Eventually I discovered that my order was being rejected because I was not placing the order in conjunction with an order for a new trainer!? So, I started brainstorming.

I thought that if I could prove that I currently own a Tacx Neo 2T, that I might qualify. I logged into my account to find out whether my product was registered. It was not. That's when I recalled that I had purchased the product while Tacx was still Tacx, and not Garmin.

None of my attempts to register my product succeeded. The primary issue seems to be that the serial number I was entering was too short. Unfortunately, I don't know whether my Neo has any other number. Well, so much for that idea!

While I can understand the marketing strategy, it still stings. Bundling the trainer with the Cog and Click upgrade kit makes it more compatible with the number one virtual cycling application on the planet. Did it occur to anyone that those of us already owning Tacx trainers might also want our trainers more compatible with the number one virtual cycling application on the planet?! While new customers are being rewarded, loyal customers are being penalized.

So, I guess I have two questions: is there any way I can register my Tacx Neo with Garmin? Secondly, is there any way I can obtain the Zwift cog and click upgrade kit from Garmin without shelling out for a new trainer?

  • I guess you would have to wait for the cog to be back in stock at Zwift. Also, it’s cheaper at Zwift. I got mine free from Zwift during a promotion last month. Only paid $9.99 shipping.

  • On a side note, just know that you can also use the Multi trainers version. Only Elite trainers really need the 18 tooth version. TACX trainers can use both, 14 and 18 tooth Zwift Cog. So in this case, the Multi Trainer version is  available at Trek.

  • Well, you're probably right. I was assuming that they were selling the kit only to those who were buying trainers. I guess it's possible that they don't have any inventory at all. What's worse is that I really only need the "Click" device. But then I guess that gives me even more options.

  • Yep. You are right. Over the last few days, I have been searching in vain for someone who might have had a Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit gathering dust in a corner of the warehouse. As suggested, it appears as though Zwift is going to be my best bet. I have asked Zwift to notify me when the item is in stock again.

  • Thanks for your post.

The Zwift cog kit is only available directly from Garmin when bundling with a trainer. These Zwift accessory kits are pre-packaged with the trainer and not available separately.

Tacx trainers are an accessory that will pair with many Garmin devices, but will not register themselves through Garmin.com or Garmin Connect like some fitness devices. There is no need to register the trainer, if any warranty service is needed we would simply require the trainer's serial number.

Your best bet is to get this Zwift hardware directly from Zwift when available. I will add that the updated NEO Virtual Shifting options do not require this single speed gear hardware. You may choose to purchase a Zwift Click or Play controller and shift virtually using the standard cassette already installed.

Edit: The Zwift Cog and Click Kit part # pictured in this post is no longer available as a standalone accesory on Garmin.com, this was a temporary error. Please contact Zwift for standalone hardware options.

  • Thank you, Clayton! I figured as much. But you can understand my confusion, given the listing I saw on Garmin's website (refer to original post). Thanks again.
