Neo 2T Virtual Shifting Issue - Shifting is creating a Panflute

Hi there,

happy to see Virtual Shifting coming for my Neo 2T. I ordered a Zwift Smart Frame and no I am nearly killed by my wife ;-) because of the sound my Neo 2T now generates.

Every Shift is like putting the soundfreqency you can hear by/from the trainer higher and lower, which is more intense while doing higher cadence and gets more silent with lower cadence, but always with a sound that drives my wife crazy with her tinnitus.

Any Ideas? My old mechanical bike did not create such sounds, I think it is something about the electronic resistance and magnetism.

Really disappointing at the moment (for me!).

Best regards

R.

  • Hello, thanks for your post!

If you experience these sounds only when the new Zwift Ride frame is installed and not with your traditional bike, the additional sound/resonance is likely due to the new frame itself. Virtual shifting did not change how the NEO flywheel moves and is effectively the same as mechanical shifting.

Double check the installation at the rear axle that you have the correct axle adapters installed and things feel secure.

Consider what the trainer and Zwift Ride are sitting on. We recommend a dedicated trainer mat or similar material under the trainer and front wheel/fork. Some flooring like wood could amplify the rhythmic sounds of pedaling and the trainer.

Assuming your traditional bike was used with a front wheel, it would have had some added suspension from the tire that is no longer present. The Zwift Ride's single leg has a somewhat small footprint and this could be part of the difference.

If you can share a few photos or videos that may be helpful. I would also encourage you to contact Zwift Support for their feedback.

  • Hi Clayton,

thank you for your quick answer.
First of all, I had no problems with my roadbike/gravelbike. The Neo 2T is about 8 month old and has less than 400km.
The Neo 2T is placed on a dedicated Tacx trainer mat, of course ;-), in my old setup I used the Neo 2T with motion plates.

Resonance is maybe key - while the longest adapter in the Zwift front leg is already mounted, it wents a little bit down because of the trainer mat softness, so I had a look and the frame is very close with the none drive side chainstay, not only in width, but in height too.
So I put a book of 3cm thickness under the front leg and in additional, I remembered the 2,7mm washer that I used with my roadbike´s quickrelease because of the disc braking caliper was to close at the trainer housing as described in the manual, to get more distance.
I checked the correct mount of the Thru Axle Adapter and Cog over and over (the 2.7mm washer was my last idea), but the issue / the sound remains still the same.
    How to send a video?
I already contacted Zwift, they send me a brand new Smart Frame to fix the problem, which arrived today.
I do not believe that this will change anything, but I have to try tomorrow and then I wil let you know.
    Thanks for now.
    All the best

    R.
