I reached out to support on this same query and I was told to submit an idea. I wish they would do it as I love my Neo but also want to keep up with new tech. If virtual shifting is not on the roadmap…
Garmin. Pls update Your firmware.
I saw that as well and immediately saw it as a good sign, however, Ray didn't say anything about Garmin/Tacx. My 2T has served me well since the start of COVID, but I will not get another nor a 3T…
Does this move us (garmin) any closer?

The comments below this new article are very interesting.
Unfortunately I do not have any updates regarding the potential for Tacx compatibility with this Zwift feature. I have seen positive feedback from users about QZ (qdomyos-zwift) and IndieVelo as solutions that allow for virtual shifting.
Clearly a discussion has happened regarding to/not to update. It would be refreshing for a corp to just be honest: "No, as we consider the 2T to be a legacy model, we will not be adding any additional functionality". Or: "We apologize to our long-term loyal customers for taking this long, but an update will be available as of April 1". I guess I can fantasize.
Because IndieVelo chose to offer Virtual Shifting in a way that was completely open to all trainers. Zwift chose to go a different way - possibly in order to force those interested into buying their/their partners hardware.
That Another app is now compatible with the zwift virtual shifting, and that most of the brands have zwift cog compatibilty but tacx should give us hope that some changes could happen.
But that you clayton are just answering that a 3rd party solution like qz could be a way to provide virtual shifting isn't very encourageing for us to expect an update of the firmware to your range of product that would provide us compatibility.
I'm puzzled / disappointed by the lack of communication or official position from garmin
