Hello all, and thank you for your participation on this topic.
As many users have pointed out, Zwift's virtual shifting feature relies on more than just the connected smart trainer (in this case, the NEO…
Garmin,
We need this update! Please update the Firmware to include virtual shifting.
thanks
As per the response from GPlama we as a community need to request this from Tacx...................... COME ON Garmin/Tacx get on with enabling virtual shifting
Glad to see this post exists as I reached out to Garmin support on this and I was informed I should submit an idea to Garmin. I wish they would do it as I love my Neo 2T but also want to keep up with new tech. If virtual shifting is not on the roadmap then I will consider selling my Neo 2T and purchase a competitor's trainer.
I have since submitted an idea as follows:
Enable virtual shifting on Neo range.
It would be great if Garmin would work with Zwift to allow Neo trainers to work with virtual shifting. I have a Neo 2T for four years now and I love it, but I am considering selling it to allow me to buy a trainer that works with virtual shifting. I would prefer to keep my Neo and for Garmin to update firmware that allows the feature in its trainer.
I think it would make a lot of current Neo owners very happy and they would stick with the Neo instead of changing to a competitor.
I am sure anyone who is new to indoor training would lean towards hardware that is compatible with virtual shifting so Garmin would be missing out on a lot of new customers by not having the feature.
Garmin’s problem is they make products end of life too soon. I don’t think there is any reason why they cannot update the firmware for the Neo 2T. They way I see virtual shifting it is like a “fake” adjustment of erg/gradient to allow the feel of a gear change.
They missed out on my $4500 and i was planning to buy a sportswatch but I have to rethink that and will most likley go for a apple watch instead.
Virtual shifting is far superior to regular gear shifts for indoor trainers. I will never look back thats for sure.
The way you "see" it is exactly how its supposed to work and its amazing. Super smooth and quiet.
What setup did you go for?
I am thinking of going JetBlack Victory with Zwift Frame.
Only yesterday I changed gears on my bike while under load and things nearly got chewed up.
I also have the Fenix 7X Pro and Edge 540. I see no need to go to F8 or Edge 1050. I think Garmin are at the point where Apple where with iPhones - each year they cannot make any real change.
I 100% agree...I want this for my Tacx Neo 2T and @Garmin; you need Zwift virtual shifting compatibility to stay relevant for indoor trainers
