Rally XC200 Pedals with Neo 2T

I just set up my Neo 2T with Zwift, and am trying to figure this whole thing out.  As I see it, there is no real reason to use the Rally 200 pedals with the Neo 2T, as the Neo displays the cadence and power to Zwift?  I would like to use my Edge 1030 also, but am wondering if there is even a reason to do that.  I have Zwift connected to Strava, and Garmin Connect,  Tomorrow will be my first ride on this setup, without the Rally pedals.  I'm not the biggest tech guy, so we'll see tomorrow.  Thank you.

  • As you suggest, there's no need to use the power pedals or Edge 1030, unless you want to see live cycling dynamics data on the head unit.

Also, some people like to use a head unit to monitor their average power, as this is not something Zwift shows until the end of the ride.

  • Thank you, Kevin.  I have yet to bring in the 1030, but I believe you can connect that to the Neo 2T, to see the Information coming from it?

  • Yes. It will show you the same info as Zwift (cadence and power), plus cycling dynamics.

If you don't want to use Zwift, you can use the 1030 for a workout, where it control the resistance on the trainer (page 13)

  • I'm contemplating adding the xc200 pedals to my 2T as well. There can be significant differences between power readings from the 2T and from another power meter. If you want you indoor work to be as comparable as possible to outdoor, then I would probably rely more on the xc200 than the 2T for power values.

As for dual recording with the Edge, you will get a lot more performance metrics from your Edge (when viewed in Garmin Connect) than from Zwift. For that reason I dual record.

The downside is the Edge will never match the distance, elevation, speed, and location data from virtual rides like Zwift. Strava will get the "correct" values from Zwift. Garmin Connect can as well if you pair it with Zwift, but you will lose some perfomance metrics you would get from the Edge.

Personally I now use Fit File Repair Tool to merge the Zwift data file with the one from the Edge, to have the best of both worlds in Garmin Connect, bit it is an extra chore, so not for everyone.

It really depends on what all the data means to you, and what you want to do with it.

  • I use my RallyXC 200 pedals as my primary source of power on my original Neo, on a KICKR Core. I do this so I have one power meter for all my training and riding. I happen to use the pedals simultaneously with my Edge 1030, TrainerRoad and Zwift when inside. I connect the pedal to Zwift and my Edge 1030 via Ant+ and to TrainerRoad via BLE.
