'Black ring' behind freehub body is stuck in place, cannot install spacer (T2805.11 / 12)

Hi! I have the problem of my derailleur cage touching the trainer if I shift to the lowest god. The solution should be to install the provided spacers behind the freehub body.To do this you have to remove the freehub body as well as the 'back ring', I also call it a sleeve or collar, not sure if it actually has a name or part number. This should be loose on the shaft and come off easily with one's fingers. On my (completely brand new, unused) Neo, this ring is totally locked in position. I have tried with a variety fo pliers and other torture implements to remove it but it does nut turn, does not budge. I have complained 3 times already to Garmin support but they have so far offered nothing. Does anyone have any advice, or at the very least commiseration, for me? Thanks!

  • For me even WD40 and pilers failed. But found a solution: bought a NEO disc extractor and used longer screws than the stock ones. Leaving about 5-7mm space between the disc and the disc extractor tool I was able to carefully pull the disc and the "black ring" in front of it. Then I released back the disc and I was able to pull the "black ring". Proper greasing, and now I can remove it by hand.
