Spacer to stop derailleur rub stops freewheel from happening

Hello.  I have installed an Ultegra 11-28t 11-speed cassette on the Neo 2T.  My derailleur touched the unit when I shifted into 28.  Possibly 26 too.  So I took the cassette off and tried to fit spacers T2805.11 and T2805.12 as per the "manual" however those spacers don't work - when on you can't actually reinsert the cassette!  So I used T2844.15 instead, as this fit nicely and allowed me to actually put the cassette back on.  However, after doing this the "freewheel" feature isn't working.  Without power connected, as soon as I stop pedalling the chain drops; with power connected, I no longer get the bearings turning however the "fly wheel" is moving when I'm not pedalling.  Evidently I have used too large a spacer, but I can't see how to get the ones documented to work as they're larger than the hole into which they are meant to go.  Can someone help me please?  I'm an IT Consultant who rarely gets his hands dirty and am out of my depth...

  • I've had a second look and I can see the "black ring" now, and have inserted the correct spacers as per the manual.  However as soon as I stop pedalling my chain just drops - the hub isn't spinning like it would if I stopped pedalling outside.  Is there a setting that I need to change or is the hub broken?

  • When stuck, ask a bunch of people who know more than you an obvious question, in a public forum, and you'll often find you can then ascertain the answer yourself!  I think I have fixed the issue.  The freehub has three hinge-like levers held onto the body using a thin circular wire - a circlip I think it's called.  This appears to have snapped.  And one of the levers/teeth had come off and was stuck in there.  I have now put them back where they are supposed to go and carefully reinserted and the cassette is now turning backwards as expected.  I'm going to clean off the grease and oil and mount the bike and give it a spin, but it's looking good.  I need to get a new circlip as I don't want to run it with a broken one if I can help it.  If anyone knows what this thing is called and the size so I can buy another that would be awesome!
