Thru-axle installation with T2805.11/12 spacer question

I am having trouble with my setup. My derailleur hits the NEO case in the lightest gear. My bike has a 12x142mm thru-axle. When I try to install the troubleshooting solution from the "manual":

  1. Remove black ring (not really a ring in my case, more like a T shape tube) from the axle
  2. Slide in the T2805.11/12 spacer
  3. Slide in the black ring
  4. Insert the free hub/cassette
  5. Tighten the 12mm screw (T2880.06)

The freehub blocks, i.e., I can no longer turn the cassette with my hands, so this setup is useless. It also happens when I only use one of the spacers.

Garmin has already sent me a new freehub but that did not change anything.

Has anyone had any luck with using these spacers with a thru-axle setup?

  • Not an answer, but a follow-up question.  What is the "black ring"?  When I try to put T2805.11 and T2805.12 onto mine to stop the same rub with an 11spd 11-28t cassette I cannot put the cassette back into the unit - the spacers stop it from reinserting.  I can't see from the pics or looking at my unit what the "black ring" or "t shape tube" is...

  • Nevermind.  Nothing like posting a question that makes you look stupid to finally be able to do it yourself.  I have now identified and removed the "black ring" and put the spacers behind it and this has stopped my derailleur rubbing.  Sorry to hijack your thread.

  • No problem. FWIW after a long conversation, pictures, etc. Garmin sent me a new unit and now it works as expected.

  • New freehub or new Neo?  Glad it's sorted.  I had some fun and games but think I'm there now.  Although I might still pop the cassette off and add the spacer as I believe this should be used on an 11spd Ultegra because of the recess at the back of the 28t ring.

Honestly, it's loads better, but the wheel-on ones are a lot simpler!
