Cadence showing as zero RPM

Cadence is always showing zero RPM.

This is the case with Tacx Desktop on Windows 10 and MacOS, as well as the iOS and Android apps.

It also shows zero RPM on Zwift.

When I received the unit a few weeks ago, cadence would drop in and out and was unstable.

Now nothing.

    Hi Jevans57,

I just hooked myself up with a brand new Neo 2T and unfortunately, also face the very same issue. Cadence always stays at zero RPM, the Tacx Utility App shows that there is an issue with the cadence sensor + the red power light flashes. Looking at the firmware version, it tells me that my device is up to date. Funnily my current version appears to be 0.0.37, although the latest version available is 0.0.36... I have no idea how this is even possible?! What firmware version do you have?

    Best,

    David

    Hi David,

Guess what, the cadence is working now. I don't know why, I moved the bike and trainer around a bit, so maybe this did something.

The firmware is 0.0.36. I never had the red power light flashing and the apps always showed that the cadence sensor was connected.

    Good luck.

  • My experience for Zwift and TACX test utility on Android 10.

    ZWIFT:

I have a brand new NEO 2T. It was coming with 0.0.26.  It used to have problem with the cadence as it was fluctuating after a while (about double suddenly). Also my Garmin Vector 3 as cadence sensor did not work at all. If I wanted to use my Vector3 instead of  the NEO's sensors then cyclist avatar just standing and did not start at all.

Seeing these I decided to upgrade to the recent version: 0.0.36.

Now I can use Vector 3 as power and cadence sensor (and hence speed sensor where speed is calculated from power)

However if I chose the NEO2T's speend&cadence and power sensor then I can see continuous connection issues (connection lost). I ignored this message and started to ride. Avatar started then stopped despite I was pedaling.

So it looks like the 0.0.36 firmware is wrong. For a 1200 EUR trainer that has theoretically power and cadence sensor is actually need a ~1000 EUR additional power sensor.

Also the different kind of road is not simulated good (my first impression was the wooden bridge simulation was very good, however for example in Insbruck where some road had paving stone top was not simulated on trainer side. It can be Zwift issue or it can be the new firmware. The whole is too new so I'm not sure.

Also I saw the "workaround" for the cadence fix. I would not say anything except this should have been in the whole box as this smart trainer is far not a cheap one...

    However... On the other hand...

    TACX util test:

I attempted to spin up the pedal and  the cadence appeared to be OK, there were no sudden increase in displaying. .

  • Hi, i have exactly the same syndromes. Red light flashing, no cadence on tacx utility app, orange check engine on cadence, no signal output or mistaken. I have also new machine two weeks with 0.0.37 firmware. I tried the trick with enlarging the cranck. Tried to use third party cadence, nothing resolves the problems of mistaken cadence read. Did you find a solution ? Are you in cotact with Garmin support ? I wrote them today, will be waiting for them to reply next week.

    Hi AlbertNS,

sorry for writing you that late. I also contacted the Garmin support. They sent me an older firmware version, asking me to downgrade & test and if necessary upgrade again to the latest version & test. Nothing worked. Therefore, it had to be a hardware issue. So I made use of my right to return the product within 14 days and got a new one. Now everything works as intended. On a side note, the new machine also came with the 0.0.37 firmware installed. Hope that you have already managed to solve your problem.

  • How come I can see cadence virtual power and speed on my android phone tacx app? On windows 10 app only speed and virtual power.....

  • same issue for me ==>  "zero RPM"

Did you manage to fix this issue  ?

  • hi, try adding some "metal stick" to the crankarm to "extend" it..... in my carbon bike crankarms it was impossible to get the cadence to work. So, i added a knife (yes it was the only thing available at home), atached it to the crankrm and now the tacx 2t inside cadence sensor recognizes the RPM without problems. Later i put some metal bar as the knife was too ugly LOL....(the metal is about 15 centimeter long total and about 1 centimert wide and 0,3centimter width and "exceeds" the crank for about 5 centimeters) attached with 2 seals to the crankarm. thanks!

  • Hi @kdx200

    Thanks for your reply !

BTW, Actually I did the same and used a knife to fix the issue :)

And Then I followed this Tuto https://support.garmin.com/fr-FR/fr-fr/?faq=btBijKpQyY6MQ11TybJVE9

And sent an email to the support team and asked them to send me the S2850.50 described in the Tuto. They send it to me.

    Hope this will help

    Thanks
