Can I connect my Tacx Neo 2T with ANT+ Garmin HR monitor

I set up my Tacx Neo 2T yesterday (EU version).  I had an older (5-6 years old) Garmin ANT+ HR monitor strap that I figured I could connect with the Tacx training app.

I run the app on my recent iPad Air.  It could find the trainer no problem, but not the HR monitor.

I know the battery is fine cause I took it out of my Sigma HR monitor which is working fine on my Sigma bike computer before and after...

Should this be possible and if so what are the steps to work through this since it wont recognize it automatically?

Otherwise, do I need to get a BLE HR monitor?

Thanks for your help, Alain.

  • I think this is really a question about whether an iPad Air can connect to devices using Ant+.  I've had a quick look online and from what I can see iPads only support bluetooth connectivity unless you buy some sort of adapter...but I'm not an Apple expert!

I guess what I was hoping for was that Tacx would have implemented a way for ANT+ devices to connect to the Tacx Neo 2T (acting essentially as a gateway), then the iPad would connect to the Tacx Neo 2T over BLE and get all the data that way and then the iPad does not need to support ANT+ (which I am 99.9% sure it does not...).

    Regards, Alain.

  • Buy a dual HR belt (ANT+/BT, usually it is starting @ ~20-30 usd from China) , a Neo wont work as an ANT+ bridge. Or You can buy ANT+ stick for Ipad Air like this: support.trainerroad.com/.../201618914-ANT-Connectivity

The ANT+ stick option is a good option when using a laptop I would think which I could do, but that is more cumbersome and I prefer to use the iPad.  The no USB port on iPhones/iPad makes things more complicated.  I will buy a BLE HRM.  That will cost me money but be the simplest solution.

It's just a shame that Tacx does not allow Garmin ANT+ HRM to connect to the trainers naitively.  Having to buy additional gadgets is annoying and not what you would expect from the most expensive trainer on the market.

  • ... especially when Garmin own Tacx! Pretty poor showing.
