Power comparison with Vector 3 Pedals

Hi,

I got my 2T today and did my first ride using TrainerRoad. I used the 2T as the power source in Erg mode connected to TrainerRoad, with my Vector 3 pedals connected to my Edge 1030. There was a significant defference between the power readings of the two devices of between 15 and 20 watts; the Neo reading approx 245 and the Vectors closer to 260. A chart is attached showing hte two rides overlaid on one another.

Is there a problem, or is this normal? I don't know how the different readings are taken, but assume that they should be broadly similar across the range - the variation seems to great to be accounted for by devices at opposite ends of their tolderance ranges to me. Grateful for your thoughts?

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

  • Hi all,

I also got a 2T. I read this thread and I am worry as all of you if you really measure 8/10% difference vs your reference power meter (especially when 1% is claimed !).

Did someone share this insight with Tacx directly? raise an email to their? has some info?...

I am quite disappointed as all of you! and the last firmware version is from end of 2019 !!

    Thanks!

gpllama said he was in communication with tacx about this. it has been months though. i'm guessing they are working on a new firmware but i'm not holding my breath anymore. I use my 4iiii for power measurement and tacx as just level trainer. It's disappointing.

  • I was in contact with garmin because of the same problems on Tacx Flux 2, changed to a Neo 2T and the same problems. Finally for the TACX Flux2  they say was a drivetrain loss problem...

I don´t think they can solve this by firmware... but it's just me thinking on that.

  • Original neo and neo 2 are spot on when you test them against power meters. (readed test reports)

Why the drivetrain problems are on 2t???

    Is garmin bullshitting us???

  • I compared my Neo 2 with my Stages 3rd gen single PM a while ago and also found my Neo 2 was reading 15 to 25W lower. The Neo 2 firmware was the latest version 0.0.34. I also tried a single leg pedal test to eliminate the inherent error with the single sided PM and found a similar discrepancy.

The variation between my indoor and outdoor FTP was a problem for me so in the end I used the Stages PM as the source for both types of training.

I contacted Garmin yesterday. Spoke with a customer service representative, Kurt. They opened a file. He asked that I send them two files for comparison, one from the Neo 2T and the other from the Stages. Anyone with similar issues should contact them. I sent Garmin the files yesterday.

Oh trust me a lot of us have been sending files for months :)

  • I did an test recently with Zwift , in simulation , not in ERG

    It seems very consistent.

guys , can you reset to defaults(using Tacx Utility app)  and retest again?

  • I will give it a try against my Quarq DZero, but did something change on your side (either 2T or your power meter)? I mean, it is a bit strange if nothing changed and suddenly the numbers are consistent...

  • One of the sadest, ironic and more frustrating thing about this, is your point. You start detraining. According to Training Peaks and here comes the ironic, also according to Garmin Training Status indicator. So a company that want's you to be better, makes you worst. hahahahahahahaha
