New Vivomove Sport (refurb) battery life is less than 18 hours. I have most functions turned off.

I have had the Vivomove sport for less than two weeks and it has never lasted even close to 24 hours, let alone "up to 5 days"  I connected to Garmin Express and confirmed it had the latest software update (it did).  Is this at all normal?  Is my unit defective?  Garmin support is telling me to turn off more functions to increase battery life which is ridiculuous.
