vivomove Trend mistakes meditation for sleep and replaces correct sleep data

I know that people have had similar issues across devices but apparently there is no solution yet.

I've started using a vivomove Trend a couple of weeks ago. Several times now, it has mistaken a 30 minute meditation session for sleep and recorded somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes of sleep. The annoying thing is, of couse, that it replaces the correct sleep data of the previous night with these 10-15 increments of "sleep".

I can manually set the time back to the original sleep time in the app, get most of the original readings (deep sleep, REM etc) but the sleep score remains poor. This is what frustrates me the most, since this completely messes up the long term average sleep score which I'd really like to keep track of.

This didn't use to happen on my previous (now secondary) device, a Forerunner 35. It never recorded sleep during meditation sessions of any length.

The only solutions I can think of is taking off my vivomove during meditation sessions (possibly wearing the Forerunner 35), or recording a "fake activity" (such as yoga) to prevent it from recording sleep - both of which are lame and not always practical, i.e. on retreats.

Is any solution to this forthcoming? It would be greatly appreciated...

  • Please ensure your sleep and wake time are setup accurately in your Connect account here Setting Sleep and Wake Window Times in Garmin Connect. If this persists, please reach out to your local Product support team.

  • My sleep and wake times are accurately set, this happens almost 3h past the set wake time. Furthermore, it has now happened while I sat on a train and worked. I'll reach out to the product team.

  • Update, in case anyone is interested: I contacted customer support. I was told that it's normal for all new Garmin devices to record sleep 3h in advance of and after the set sleep window if one is in a restful state and doesn't move. There is no solution. The only "solution" I was given is to record an activity such as yoga and then delete it.

If it was only during meditation that this happened, well ok. But now it has happened to me also while sitting still and working on my laptop - which others have described happening to them elsewhere. So we're just supposed to remember all morning and evening "oh, I'm sitting still! Better record an activity to prevent my device from messing up my data!"

Splendid. Total improvement to my really old Forerunner 35 which never had that issue. This is really highly disappointing.
