this will be my last garmin!
Cant stand this forcing of so different approach..

thx.

  • Also, whats with charging port next to the band??

why ending activity now need 3 (!) confirms ??  "Are you sure? " "are you sure?"

Bad design, bad software.. not for me

  • whats with charging port next to the band??

The vívoactive 6 is thinner, lighter, smaller battery, designed around a compact sensor module using a tighter internal layout. That means Garmin has far fewer places to put the charging connector without interfering with the optical sensor, increasing case thickness, breaking waterproofing, making the watch wobble on the wrist, creating a bump in the center of the back. Therefore, the only structurally reinforced, non‑sensor area on a thin watch is the region near the band lugs.

  • Thank you for the reply.. 0.2mm change correct.? ..

not so dramatic for customers like me..

  • Afaik the VA6 has the newer OS that started with the Fenix 8. Software changes over time. I haven't had one of the watches with the newer OS / menus, but I've seen some videos of them. It seems like you'll get used to the changes after using it a while. Other brands also change their software, so it's difficult to avoid that.

Does it really matter where the charging port is located? You're not wearing the watch while charging it.

I think the multiple confirmations is so that people don't save or discard activities by accident, it's a safety feature, that can become annoying.

Unfortunately, you can't please everyone. And I have my fair share of criticism and things I'd prefer Garmin does differently.

  • Thx so much for the kind answer.. garmin where my favorite until that one.. I may consider other brands with same/equal quality..

    thank you!

Yup, accidentally saving or discarding activities has been an issue in Garmin touchscreen watches for a long time (probably since their first one in 2011). There are old forum / reddit posts going back ~10 years complaining about accidentally losing an activity due to rain or long sleeves.

So it kinda makes sense that the UI for saving/discarding an activity is changing over time, as Garmin tries to figure out the best way to address this problem. (It changed a couple of times on FR955.)

It's just too bad it's taking them so long to figure it out.

  • The Instinct 2 also has the charging port next to the band. Other models have it on the left and others on the right. Probably due to the internal circuits. The only place I can see it making a difference is if you have some kind of charging stand which will then not be in the 'correct' orientation for different watches.
