After software update my vivoactive 5 has constant blue triangle

After the latest 17 update my Vivoactive 5 is constantly showing the blue triangle and restarting. I have tried rebooting it and syncing with the app but neither have worked. If I connect it to my computer and accessing the internal files I can see in the error log the phrase RTL trap. The battery is also draining very fast.

  • Did you factory reset the device or did you just power the watch off and on? Also, how long is the battery lasting after a full charge?

  • Same problem.  Tried advice from Garvin pages and 5 other sources, nothing is working.  Drained from 100% to 2% overnight, which I only know because I occasionally catch it logging in and showing the normal display but that switches to blue triangle within seconds or minutes.  Right now it is on a new image after draining 50% in the last 4 hours, stuck on the "vivoactive" over a big 5.  It took 2 days of trying to recover before watch even sync'ed.

Can I push out a switch back to the pre-update/upgrade version???

  • I have the same problem
My vivosmart 5 left to work
    It's just show a tringule

  • After I emailed Garmin support they advised me to try performing a master reset of the watch to see if that would work. I followed the instructions and it seemed to work as the watch has been fine since. This is what they told me to do, I hope it works for you as well.

    1. Be sure the watch is not plugged in. Press and hold the power button until the watch powers off.

    2. Press and hold the top and bottom buttons.

    3. Release the top button after the first vibration.

    4. Release the bottom button after the second vibration

  • Well.  Didn't work for me, but then, I never felt any vibration at all, despite holding down both buttons for over 5 minutes.  Arthritis pain was very aggravated trying to hold down the buttons, but I think I still would have felt vibration if it was there to feel

When I wrote last week, I finally left the watch to do as it would, and after several hours - maybe 5? 7? - I looked over and saw that it was on.  It worked for the rest of the week.  Of its own accord.  No explanation.  So I'm going to have to do that this time.  NOT happy about it..
