I see others have had similar issues but I'm not sure if there's going to be a fix or not, or whether this is just a function of the garmin watches. I've played hockey with my Polar H10 heart rate chest strap at the same time as using the Vivoactive 5 watch. The watch will show my heart rate spiking as I start my shift, but when I peak the heart rate suddenly plummets. When I come off from my shift and look at my heart rate it's reading quite low (~100 bpm) while I'm still huffing and puffing on the bench. When I look at the results of the Polar chest strap, I see my heart rate maintained at the higher rate for the shift and then the drops when I'm on the bench.
I have friends using the apple watch and don't seem to have the same issue. Is this an issue specifically with my watch or with the Garmins in general? I know the chest strap will be more accurate, but comparing the the results of both activities there is a difference in avg heart rate of almost 30 bpm and over an hour, the difference in calories burnt is ~40%.
I'm using the silicon strap, have tried both wrists, cleaned the sensor, adjust the position and tightness on my wrist, and nothing seems to be helping. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm pretty disappointed in the results I'm seeing so far.
