Vivoactive 5 HR low when running

I bought my Vivoactive 5 in December after getting tired of my Fitbit Inspire 3 never tracking my HR properly during exercise.

For weeks now (around the time of the update) - my Vivoactive is massively out on HR tracking during runs. I'm using the 5K Coach and this happens will basically all runs now.

Once in my running pace, it'll often get stuck aroma nd 115-120 and just stay there. On longer runs it has in occasion jumped up to around 150-160 (which is correct) but I've just completed a 1.6k where it never changed.

My heart isn't that good just yet.

I've been working on my running form but arms are always out at the side and swinging so I don't see how that can be the cause.

So far this is only when running all other activities track without issue. An update on this issue would be appreciated.

  • I'm experiencing this with runs and strength training. Racked 315 after my 5th set of squats to failure, and my HR was 43bpm.

I have been using my VA4 and VA5 simultaneously so I can see what my HR actually is. My VA5 is incapable of getting even remotely accurate readings most of the time.

  • Funny you say that! The running tracking is more or less fine for me (maybe now I'm doing regular 5ks over 1.6s but still)

But I've noticed walking is still often way off and I when weight lifting it will occasionally go to 90s 100s but often slumps around. 70s and 80s and I don't think that's right when I'm leg pressing 350kg

  • I had this too. I solved it by wearing the watch a little further up my arm and tightening it one notch more. It is now quite tight but not at all uncomfortable. The HR is giving the (truer) higher readings
