Garmin Vivoactive 5 notifications disappearing too quickly

I got the Garmin Vivoactive 5 a week ago, and I’m a bit frustrated that notifications from the watch disappears so quickly. When feeling the watch vibrate, the text on the watch disappears in just 1-2 seconds. And unless you’re staring at the watch when the notification appear, it’s usually gone before you’re able to react. Like for instance today. I was out showeling show, and felt the watch vibrate, so I immediately let go of the shovel to look at the watch, but the text disappeared just as I was beginning to read it. And then it’s gone forever. Not stored in any history or anything, and swiping from left to right and opening «notifications» shows nothing.

The problem is just with the Garmin watch notifications, like achievements, goals and supportive messages you get from the watch during the day like «be more active» or «take a pause» and stuff like that. Notifications from the phone, like sms messages, stays in the notification queue on the watch, and can be read at a later time (unless you read and delete it on the phone first).

My Garmin Vivoactive 5 is set up and paired correctly with my iPhone 13, and everything works and syncs just fine between the watch and the Garmin apps on my phone. The only problem is with these notifications disappearing too fast. I’ve looked through all the menys on the watch and my phone, but there’s no place where I can either set a longer duration time for these notifications, or access them in a notification history queue.

I really hope Garmin fixes this, and also gives us the choice to both set the time the notifications should be displayed on the watch screen (for instance 5, 10 and 30 seconds), and also make notifications that have disappeared accessible in the notifications history queue.

  • I've just realized I was posting on another thread with the same issue, but for the Venu 3. I have a Vivoactive 5 so it's better to keep the conversation here Slight smile

I think this is the only real flaw of this smartwach, and it's driving me crazy! You get a vibration and by the time you've managed to look at the watch, it's GONE. You'll never know what it was.

It's winter and to reach my watch I have to "dig" for it because I'm wearing a heavy coat, heavy sweater, etc. I've given up on reading these notifications, I'm never quick enough.

I'm now testing the default watchface to see if custom watchfaces have any influence on notifications disappearing so fast.

I also wonder if this is affecting everyone or not. I'm not sure it it's a poor design choice or a bug.

  • And I just replied to you on the other thread..... Smiley

But good idea to keep the conversation for the Vicoactive 5 here.

Yeah, this issue is pretty much the only bad thing I have to say about this smartwatch too. It'll be interesting to hear if using default watchfaces will influence this. Wouldn't surprise me if this is just a poor design choice. Maybe the developers think that everybody walks around in t-shirts all the time... :

A simple way to solve this would be if Garmin added a menu item so the user could chose how long these supportive messages are shown before disappearing, like for instance 10, 30 or 60 seconds.

  • They disappear in 5 seconds no matter what the watchface is. A configuration option for this is a no brainer, really!

  • This happens to me every day also, so frustrating! I switched from Fitbit to Garmin this year and I'm ready to change again. If anyone has any suggestions how to get accurate step count while walking on treadmill, it's another huge frustration! Walking 4.2mph, completed 2.6miles and Vivoactive 5 states mile 1 completed "leisurely walk"@ 2.5mph. I've already tried custom stride, measuring my stride but still didn't help.

  • Hei, fant du ut noe her, eller er meldingene fortsatt bare der noe sekunder? Hilsen en med samme problemet Sweat smile
