Incorrect editing of heart rate zones

heart rate % zones, e.g. I enter 50% and a number other than 50% appears.

In my opinion, this setting is not working properly.

vívoactive® 5 firmware version 8.27 stable

  • Edit: as your resting heart rate changes, your heart rate % zones also change automatically. This is incorrect because vivoactive 5, according to the instructions, only shows % of maximum heart rate zones and not % of heart rate reserve.

  • Just queried this issue with Garmin; the %age entered is not the one that get stored, so you can’t update HR zones.  Oddly what it does store, is what is shown when you then try to edit the error!

  • I'm having the same issue. My zones are set where I want them, but the corresponding BPM is incorrect. IE, I have zone 2 set at 60%-70%, which for me is 129-142, but my vivoactive 5 says my zone 2 is 107-125. Has anyone gotten anywhere with this?

  • I posted about the heart rate zone calculations being wrong on the Garmin Vivovatice 5, but I never got a response.

  • I reached out via the support chat, and all they were able to do was send me a link on how Garmin uses zones and a manual for my device (which didn't really tell me anything). I asked if they use the standard calculations to find heart rate zones and they didn't know. They suggested changing the zones manually if I felt they were incorrect. Which by the way, I've done. I had to do the math to figure out what the garmin percentages should be, and went and manually changed each. For example, my zone 2, which SHOULD be 60%-70%, is now set to 72%-80% showing me the true values. I was able to see what their zone BPMs are on the Vivoactive 5 by going to start an activity, swiping up, going to Settings, selecting Alerts, and setting alerts for the low end and high end of Zone 2. It will then show you what the BPM for that zone is on the Alerts screen. Seems like a silly workaround, but I hope that helps.
