I'd say the Vivoactive 4 is more accurate. I've stopped wearing my Vivoactive 5 and gone back to my Vivoactive 4S for that reason and the fact that since the stress is bad so is the Body Battery. I was…
my Vivoactive 5 says I am high stress every day. I've had it for 3 months now but the calibration to my stress levels is putting my stress way too high. I cannot put any value in this metric.
I noticed this as well going from Vivoactive 4 to 5, I got the 5 just before an international trip so figured the high stress was jet lag and being busy, but now 2 months later I go back to the Vivoactive…
How long have you been using your vivoacvtive 5 and are you wearing it 24/7, including during sleep? It could take a few weeks before the watch knows more about your HRV, stress levels, and sleep.
I'd say the Vivoactive 4 is more accurate. I've stopped wearing my Vivoactive 5 and gone back to my Vivoactive 4S for that reason and the fact that since the stress is bad so is the Body Battery. I was thinking of buying a Fenix 7 solar, but, if Garman can't get the Vivoactive 5 right, I'm sure there are similar issues with the Fenix.

I purchased a Instinct 2 solar and found it has the same stress level issue as the Vivoactive 5. They both have the same new HR sensor, which is different than the Vivoactive 4S. The Vivoactive 4S HR sensor seems larger and more intense so possibly it creates a signal with a higher "signal to noise", i.e., less error in the HRV measurement but also less battery life. Of course, Garmin may have just changed the stress algorithm when they introduced the new HR sensor and the algorithm is tuned more for super athletes than every day folks.
I noticed this as well going from Vivoactive 4 to 5, I got the 5 just before an international trip so figured the high stress was jet lag and being busy, but now 2 months later I go back to the Vivoactive 4 and suddenly my stress levels are back to normal rather than always being high. I can't trust the Vivoactive 5 at all but of course it's too late to return it.
