Garmin vivoactive4 software update 20th Nov 2024

Following agreeing to todays update my watch face has stopped working

I cannot input or select any icons, only the two A and B buttons work.

I cannot turn the phone off as it seems the screen needs to work in order to do this

any solutions available?

although the watch sensors appear to be be working of sorts, pulse rate working but I played one hour of football this evening and nothing recorded

  • I accepted an update on the watch on 20 November - since then the watch doesn’t respond anymore to anything, and it blasts through the battery in 36 hours. After charging it turns on and still doesn’t respond to anything. Can I reverse the update?

  • No. Even if you did the watch would auto update again. Garmin does not want to disclose what is in those recent updates, but they do not bring any new features or fix anything, they just mske watches brake. It seems thst is the point of those updtes - to break Vivo 4 watches and push users to buy newer watch

  • Hi Vizi

Do you have personal experience or hard data that this happens?

It certainly makes me suspicious as immediately post update the screen no longer worked, I had not moved and certainly had not dropped or damaged the watch which was on my wrist.

    cheers

  • Hi 7463081

sounds similar to my experience with the exception of the battery draining. As I am unable to use the watch for recording a run or walk the battery is lasting longer.

basically it is just a watch now, I can buy a CASIO for about £15 that performs all my current Vivoactive 4 functions.

Extremely disappointing, and if VIZI is correct this behaviour would be reprehensible.

Nota great experience for a £240 device

  • Auto-updates cannot be disabled on Vivoactive watches, there is no such option (obviously nonsense limitation), so it will update itself again.

Nota great experience for a £240 device

Not a great experience for any device, let alone costly Garmin watches. Breaking devices with undisclosed updates and not bearing any responsibility is appalling practice.

  • Did you find a fix? I’m having issues to since updating heart rate monitor and step counter stopped working, screen is glitches and won’t hold battery for more then 7 hours

  • I also accepted this update and my watch has just completely stopped working. It has a black screen, the green lights on the back are out and it won't charge or reset. I have pressed all the buttons for 30s, with and without it being plugged into a computer and the power outlet but no luck. After contacting Garmin and telling them i had tried all of this they just sent me links to a page which told me to hold down buttons and plug into a computer. Very frustrating, especially as it really does seem it is associated with this update. I am still waiting for Garmin to respond again.

  • My watch stopped working completely today 11/30

Now it is showing only blue triangle, I tried all the trouble shooting tips but no luck.

Is Garmin killing their customers by providing buggy updates?
