Backpacking Trip: Off grid use. Triangle, then no heart rate data in Connect, but heart rate IS in hiking activity

How many days/hours/diatance of hiking activity can the Vivoactive 4 (FW 8.30) hold?  I am using RH-Sports Hiking App Professional.  I believe my Vivoactive 4 used to sync with the Connect app on my iPhone without the iPhone having a network connection.  And I could feel confident that the data was transferred off of the watch to the iPhone and could move on to the next day’s activity knowing there was plenty of storage space on the watch.  Now a network connection seems necessary.

I went on a backpacking trip (out of cell range), and Day 1 all worked as expected.  Day 2 I did a long hike.  The Vivoactive captured my stats, visible in Connect, for the actual hiking activity.   But the Connect app shows no heart rate data for the entire day, even during the activity period.  So, no stats here connect.garmin.com/.../0   but I do see status when I look at the actual hiking activity in Connect.   I am interested in the stats after the activity because I wanted to see my “recovery” rate.

A few hours after my hike that day and (stopping the activity), I plugged the Vivoactive 4 into a battery bank to recharge it, but when I came back expecting to find a charged watch, I found the triangle on the screen and that it had not charged.  I rebooted it, it recharged, and after that time I can see heart rate stats in Connect.

Later, Day 3, after hiking back to civilization I was back in cell range and could sync the Vivoactive 4 with Connect.   But Connect still does not show me the heart-rate data for Day 2.
