I have a 2 year old vivoactive 4s that is trying to die. Does anyone else have this issue? I am training for my first full marathon in over 20 years, so I need my device to be healthy! (And. yes I have troubleshot, wiped it clean twice, etc etc.)

Welcome to the party... you'll find a bunch of issues (in particular with battery life) in this forum, most of them from people on the Beta program. Doesn't unfortunately feel like Garmin is paying too much attention (this isn't a new product 
), so I wouldn't expect much...
On the positive side, my VA4 hasn't been getting any worse recently (it's providing a barely "acceptable" customer experience) so... there's that!
