Vivoactive 4s sensor/WHR/BMX all 0.0 with update 8.30 and beta update 8.50

i know this was an old problem but anyone find a work around or fix. have done all the normal procedures and even a factory reset. Just tried to see if beta 8.50 would work and it didn't. Phone is only working when plugged into a charger. As soon as phone is removed it turns off. related to the sensor software getting wiped somehow?

  • I was thinking this is a serious brand. The watch is almost useless since update to 8.x version. Are you joking that you don't fix the reported problems? Everything was ok before the update. Don't buy this brand, if they think you should buy a new watch, they update the software and bye-bye. No battery life, intermittent connection to phone, etc.

  • hi! i’m having the same problem, did you manage to solve it? if so, could you tell me how? thank you!

  • Alas, I was finally one of those affected by a Garmin update. A week ago I got a sensor update on my VivoActive 4s and it has been unusable since then. My heart rate sensor, altimeter sensor, accelerometer, and GPS all stopped working. When I check the sensor versions it displays

    • sensor: 0.0
    • WHR: 0.00.00

The battery life also dropped exponentially and it now lasts less than 4 hours. any ideas how I could proceed?

  • I apologize for this disruption. If you are experiencing this, please contact Garmin Support in your region. It is likely that your device will need to be exchanged, and exchanges cannot be initiated via the Forums

  • Hey, I'm poster 8867150, I have an update: today, July 16th, 2025, I randomly plugged my old Garmin VivoActive 4S into my computer and was notified by Garmin Connect that there was an update to the sensor hub. After the update I was able to completely recover all the sensors I had lost 5 months ago. I'll proceed by testing my watch over the next weeks and see if it is stable enough. I almost trashed this watch and was not able to use following Garmin's original update...

  • just checked and no updates showing for my 4s. software is 8.50 and no Optional Updates

Funny thing is my vivoactive 4 that I wear (4s is one I got for my wife 6 months after mine) still shows software 8.30 and works great

  • I have a vivoactive 4s in the house that all of a sudden lost all its sensors and ability to use the touchscreen in certain spots about a month ago. Despite numerous hard resets and charge/drain cycles, nothing has fixed the issue and Garmin support has written off the watch. However hearing that a software update might fix the problem is encouraging.

What software version did yours update to? I see people in the forums talking about 8.50, but the 4s I have is only 8.30 and both Express and Connect say the watch is up to date.

  • Yep, your symptoms sound all too familiar. My vivoactive 4S was working perfectly fine until I was notified about an update which then proceeded to cripple all my sensors (heart-rate, O2, accelerometer, GPS, you name it). I also tried multiple resets and going back on firmware but nothing worked. Garmin support also wrote off the watch. I'm on 8.50, If I'm not mistaken it is a beta program that you must enrol on Garmin's website through your user area. Only after having activated that does an update option appear on Garmin Express.

I stopped using the watch in May but I knew that at the hardware level everything was fine I just figured that maybe an update would be made available in the future. That is why I tried to connect it this week and voilá
