Playlists not reading special characters

Hi everyone,

I struggled a bit to upload a playlist (m3u/m3u8 format, not via spotify) to the vivoactive 4. In the end, I got everything working, but I noticed that files with special characters in the playlist are not read and just ignored by the watch. This forces to rename every single file if you want to play them in a specified order.

Has anybody found a solution to the problem?

Thanks a lot

  • Hello, as mentioned in this FAQ: Audio File Type Support for Garmin Music Watches. 'Some media management programs will require you to remove any special characters and extra spaces from folders, playlists, and song titles as these will not display on your watch.'

For additional support, please reach out to your local Garmin Support team.

  • I have also had files fail to upload because the file name was too long. It is particularly annoying that file names that are accepted in Itunes are rejected with a failed to download message. It would be much more user friendly if Garmin Express identified the first special character that are not accepted or that the file name is too long.
