Vivoactive 4 Screen is unresponsive to touch.

Very recently my vivoactive 4 watch screen has started becoming unresponsive to the touch of my fingers. It also has stopped connecting with my phone. I've tried cleaning my watch and hands, and I have also tried resetting the watch itself. Is there any way of fixing my issue or do I just need to look for a replacement?

  • Strange, I have the same issue 2 days ago. Is possible this issue relates to new firmware update?

  • Do you use or have you used this type of protection in the past ?

  • Nope, Is it necessary?

I used it for almost 3 years. I think possible that related to firmaware version 8.0 .

  • There's a 8.0 firmware?! When have you received it? I don't see an official announcement on stable or beta.

  • I have no idea either. I enable auto update on my watch then someday I woke up and find out my watch touch screen is broken. I checked with Garmin Express and found the current is 8.0. I tried to search for this firmware I didn't find anything. This is so strange to me...

  • Any idea how I got Firmware 8.0 on my device?

  • What does the watch show when you go into settings->system->about->sw versions?

Is it 8.0, just like in garmin express?

  • My watch touch screen is not working currently. I can only press the physical button.

  • I had a brief problem with that protection.

When it comes to firmware, I can tell you that a lot of strange stories have been happening lately. Some functions appeared on my watch that I didn't have such as the training status (and I'm happy about this) the firmware remained 7.80 but I have the Legacy saga version.

I found a file in the RemoteSW folder (006B329903.GCD) I don't know what it is, but I deleted it because I don't want any more updates. My watch is currently working better than expected. The only "defect" is that I have to charge it for at least 4 hours, regardless of the battery percentage. This way I can keep it for 4 or 5 days without further recharging.

    p.s.

have you tried doing this ?

  • Try what Nicolo B said below.

Also, you can try manually install a firmware, if watch connects to cpu. This way, you can check if the touchscreen problem is fw related.

This is how a readme.txt file looks inside the zip files of the fws.

    Installation Instructions:
    1. Connect your vivoactive 4 to your computer using the USB cable.
    2. Download and unzip vivoactive4_730Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file into the \GARMIN directory of the device.
    4. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.

If you need to backdate software to 7.20, rename GUPDATE_720.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD and place the file in the GARMIN directory.
    ***NOTE***
Back dating software will clear all settings on the device

If you see any issues send an email to [email protected]
    Please indicate the following:
Your vivoactive variant (vivoactive 4, vivoactive 4S, or Venu)
    Software version
    GCM version
    Android or iOS

If it stiil doesn't work with different fw, then most probably it is a hardware problem. Try contacting your local Garmin support, they usually solve this kind of problem.
