Inconsistent Pace reading while using Garmin Coach, I am slowing down when running under trees?

Hi,

I just wanted to check if anyone else is getting inconsistent Pace readings when using Garmin Coach and running in Forests or Parks with a lot of trees?

Because I think I'm going crazy when I only get pace alerts on my runs while under tree cover! I can literally see my Pace go from a steady  5:30 to 6:00-6:20 as soon as I get some leaves/branches between me and the clear sky. It is not a hilly area, it is a park in the middle of the city.

Is there any way to Reset the GPS-Firmware, or is a Factory reset the only option?

Using recording every second, syncing using Bluetooth daily and the same behaviour occurs regardless of GPS+GLONASS or GPS+GALILEO.

Will try and record tomorrow's run on my VA4, 735XT and phone to compare the data.

  • I've had the same issue. My pace may glitch from 9:00 to 11:00 then back to 9:00. I would assume that's the natural consequence of running under trees. Just like you can't find a GPS signal inside your house. Or at least I can't.

However, I don't remember my watch always being glitchy like that. It doesn't hurt to reach out to Garmin support to see if they can see if your watch is having any firmware issues.
