Heart rate sensor - lights stopped working, whr 0.00.00

Hi all,

my vivoactive 4S is a little over 3 years old now and started experiencing some issues.

After doing a deep clean, factory reset and the newest software update, most issues disappeared. Slight smile

One new issue that appeared is that the green lights of the heart rate monitor stopped working.

In settings, all heart rate related things are turned on so that can't be it.

When looking at the software update, it states the following:

  • software version: 7.8
  • gps: 6
  • ANT: 8.0
  • wifi: 2.6
  • sensor: 0.0
  • WHR: 0.00.00

These final two are worrying.

I did try the garmin express and got a notification that a new sensorupdate has been done but still shows the 0 versions.

As i'm in the middle of a training program i can't afford to not register any heart rate or to lose my watch for a couple of weeks.

anyone know any tips or tricks can help?

  • Hi I have the issue, what happened if you ?

  • Thank you for posting in the Forums. Our support team will need to review this to see how this can be fixed. Please reach out to your local Garmin Support team.

  • Did anyone get a solution to this problem,  Garmin appear to be not very responsive to the issue and were surprised when it was raised with them, but it seems like it has been a problem for a while

  • I reached out today due to a similar issue. Went swimming with my watch last year and it wouldn't turn back on. Finally just got the watch to turn back on but now there's a weird void on the screen (that I can get to go away) and the heart rate monitor won't work.

I've tried turning off and on and updating the software.

Reached out to Garmin today and they said the 4S model is discontinued and I cannot exchange because there are no refurbished models available... offered a 20% discount which doesn't do me much good when the 4S is currently selling for over $300. :( womp womp...

Hope you had luck with yours! If anything worked I'd be interested in hearing.
