Watch randomly powers off

In the last two months my vivoactive 4 randomly turns itself off even though there’s more than enough power. Any ideas? Love the watch but it’s so annoying

  • Yes im having the same issue as well. Battery can be 100% and will randomly shut down.  This happens a lot and its always guaranteed to when I select and an exercise like running. when I push the top side button to start my run it will shutdown every single time.  the watch has now become unsalable for its original purpose.

I've had this watch for about 2 years with no issues at all. I would say in the last 2/3 months its been happening, so im wondering if it due to the last software update. who's no's but im not happy and I cant track anything now.

  • All,

Thank you for your participation in our Forums. I'd love to look into the troubles you are experiencing with your watch. Please provide the following:

    • Do you have any Connect IQ apps installed?
    • How many times has this occurred?
  • Hi.

I live in England and you can email me and access my connect account. I have 12 apps installed on my watch. 11 are the free watch faces and the Parkrun barcode widget.

The random shutdowns happens often. More so when I'm using/touching the screen. Happens randomly when navigating menus and its guaranteed to shutdown when pressing the top side button to start my runs. It doesn't seem to matter what battery percentage ite on.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I'm having the same issue, it started within the last month and my vivoactive 4 now shuts off about 50% of the time when starting any activity. Restarts and resets have not helped to resolve the issue. To answer the questions posted:

    • United States
    • Yes
    • Yes
    • No
    • This has happened on 5 of my last 10 attempts at starting an activity, and once it starts happening there seems to be no resolution other than waiting a long time and then sometimes it will start an activity without crashing after a few hours.
  • This seem to be a very common issue with this watch model. I've done a lot of research on different websites and forums and hundreds of people having the same or similar issues with random shutdowns. In a away I felt relieved it wasn't just me. However knowone has said why or what's causing this issue.

If you brought the watch directly from Garmin I think the process is more streamlined when it comes to reporting and having issues. Because they had my account details already, they contacted me directly. I sent them pictures and a video off the problems I've been experiencing. The next day I was told to return my watch so they can send out a replacement. From complaining on this forum to receiving a replacement it was very quick. I'm impressed with Garmin's customer service.

Off course everyone's situation is different, warranty and technical issues etc.
