External "Step Sensors" for VivoActive 4 with resting hands?

I have been using a VivoActive 4 for some time now. Love the watch. My biggest issues is getting accurate step counts indoors when my hand is resting on a handle. Like when I go shopping. While my hand is on the handle of the shopping cart, the steps don't get counted. I have to walk in front of the cart and pull it with my opposite hand to get arm swing to count steps. Problem now is that my activities at work have changed and I do a LOT of steps while having to push a similar object with my hand on the handle. So all those steps are not being counted.

I have thought about getting a Foot Pod although I see those are difficult to find now. I also see the Running Dynamics Pod but I am unsure if this will work with simple steps or is it only for running? So before I go and drop $60+ on a new sensor, I ask if anyone knows if using a foot pod (if I can find one) or the Running Dynamics Pod will help me get those steps I am missing? Also, will I have to start an "activity" to get these to work or will they simply start counting the steps when I walk.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

None of these will help you.

Consider the HRM-Pro. This will give you steps although probably not as comfortable to wear.

  • Thank you for your answer. I was afraid of this. I agree that the HRM-Pro will not be as comfortable and it will probably cause me to sweat even more than I do now. Disappointed I may have to look into alternative step counting measures. Sadly I don't think its possible to modify steps in the app either so I still won't have them recorded in any case. Ugh. Thanks again.
