Treadmill walking not counting steps on ankle

Hi all,

I have had my vivoactive 4s for 2.5 years now, and have just invested in a walking treadmill for use at work. Like a diligent smartwatch user, I put my vivoactive around my ankle whenever I use the treadmill. For the past 2 weeks I have been walking around 1-2 hours per day. At the end of the day, I excitedly go to check my step count and inevitably it reads in the 300s.

Through experimentation I've tried putting it on the front of my ankle, sides, calf, my other ankle, and it will always count the first 20 or so steps then nothing after that.

Any help? I've seen so many old threads on this but has there every truly been a patch for this?

  • My wife wears hers on the ankle loose fit over her sock and pants cover watch. No heart rate ever gets recorded in Connect during those times. Steps count all day long.

When we go to Rec Center and use the Treadmill I tuck mine under sock and it's tight enough to get the heart rate. Step  count and pace record for the whole walk/run.

Why wait to end of day to check? When you put it on the ankle, open Connect and walk around 10-20-30 steps and see if it's counting.
