Vivoactive 4s sudden battery drain

Since 3 days ago my Vivoactive 4s' battery drains from 100% to zero in about 9 hours. This also happens during the night, when the watch is fully idle in DND mode. Fully charged before bedtime, and was 6% this morning when I woke up.

Nothing has changed in the settings, and the watch battery lasted for days before. Tried device reset (without deleting data), this did not help.

The drop in battery life was sudden and drastic, and does not seem like a normal, gradual weakening of the battery. The watch is a little over 1 year old. SW version 7.80.

Custom watch face turned off, no change. Pulse Ox not in use. No activities recorded in this period.

What could cause this?

  • Same thing happened to me on my VA3.  That was when I upgraded to the VA4.  Best advice is call customer service.  Maybe you can get an exchange.

  • I have the same issue. Battery drain from ~55% to 0% in a few hours (not being used for an activity). Charged watch to about 10% and it drained instantly. Now wont't charge past 6%. This is new and sudden fault that began today. Battery has been normal until today. Vivoactive 4s firmware 7.80.

  • I have the same issue on a Vivoactive 4. Around 6% battery usage per hour without doing anything (tracking, pulse ox, etc.). SW version 7.80 too. Never had this problem before, so it must be the software. Can the Admins please look into this?

  • Same issue. Randomly from 55% to 0% in 30 minutes. Reseted watch and then I couldnt pair with phone anymore. Almost 2 years. Sent to warranty. Still no info.  Sent ~2 weeks ago.

  • So device reset with full data delete tested. Tried charging with PC like someone mentioned in an older thread. These things did not help either.

Rolled back to older SW but no idea if it helped, since it only took a couple of hours for Garmin to push the latest update to the watch again. So it's back at 7.80.

Sent the watch back to retailer, hopefully I'll get a new watch, or preferably my money back. Would rather not have another watch with the the same issue, or a Garmin watch in general. It's absurd that you cannot stop these things from updating, even if makes your watch unusable.

  • I am having the same issue the last few days. I am currently syncing to Express and updating to see if that helps.
