Vivoactive 4s fails to connect to Samsung S22+ after phone update

My Samsung S22+ took a software update last night and since then my Vivoactive 4s fails to connect to the phone.  My other bluetooth devices (earbuds, car audio) work fine.  I did try unpairing and re-pairing and it took multiple tries to get it paired again, but then disconnected afterwards.
