My Vivoactive 4 keeps powering off after I save an activity and for longer activities it powers off mid-activity and won’t turn back on until I plug it in. When it does power on it shows battery at 50% ish so not due to battery running flat.

I’ve had it for 2.5 years. I was considering upgrading but reluctant to spend more money if the general lifespan of garmin product is only a couple of years. I’m very disappointed as it’s my first garmin device and I had thought garmin was a top class brand with reliable products.

  • Hi i also have the same issue. it happens as such . when i begin a ride  it and i press start it goes straight to triangle. On other occasions when i finish a cycle and stop the activity it goes to triangle . Very frustrating . Can you assist.  My watch is only 2 years old

  • Hi.

My watch turns off almost every time I save an activity. I think need to restart the watch and sync to Garmin Connect to update to the correct time.

    • May we email you? Yes
    • Which country do you reside in? South Africa
    • Do we have permission to access your Connect account? Yes

    Thanks

    Andrew

  • Same Problem here.

    Yes you can email me.

    Country is germany.

You have permission to access my connect Account.

    Thank you

  • Hi

im in Ireland . Have my watch since July 21 and have the same issue the last few weeks on Saving an activity the watch dies. When I turn it back on there is plenty of battery left. If I’m not near my phone when turning it back on the time is stuck on the time it turned off at. Any update please. Don’t want to buy another garmin if they only last 2 years.

  • So far I haven't heard anything back from Garmin, and this problem is dragging along voor quite some time now. And given that there are quite a few cases, it's not some random issue, but something structural.

The more I observe the behaviour of the watch leading to a shutdown, the more I'm convinced that it has something to do with having a internet connection. Some of the things I noticed:

    • When trying to connect to WiFi via the settings menu it shuts down consistently
    • When trying to check if there are software updates it shuts down consistently
    • When the watch is to far away from my phone (no bluetooth connection) and I try to save an activity, it shuts down.

This to me all points to a connection issue. But it also makes it impossible to update the software (as a software updates also cause a shutdown).

    @Garmin-Inder, it's time for a solution!

  • You can get the correct time back when you sync the watch with your phone.

  • I took the liberty to add the English translation (thanks Google) of your post, as I think it's quite useful.

"I have the same problem with my Vivoactive 4, it turns off when I start an activity or when I search for WiFi and a few other times randomly. I discovered that if I do all these operations with the USB cable connected to the charger, it never turns off. Could you also test tea?

I fear that the battery on this device is underpowered (178 mA) and updates over time have rendered it unusable."

I found the same thing as you, that when connected to a charger, the WiFi and Software updates do work.

  • Thank you. Yes I noticed as soon as watch connected to phone the time jumped to correct time. Hoping Garmin come up with a reply soon

  • I have the same problem. My watch crashes after trying to connect to wifi, saving a workout, or when the pulseoxymeter is on. The battery percentage does not matter.
