Anyone else gets very often "Transfer Failed" with WiFi?

Synchronising with WiFi, seems to upload normaly, nothing missing.

But very often: "Transfer Failed" shown on watch. Anyone else with same problem?

  • Im thinking about currupted files or filesystem too.

Maybe full reset will help... but im to lazy to try.

chkdsk or else wont work anymore on VA4, to bad.

  • I tried to delete all activity- and point-files except for the last week or so on the watch, but it still reports transfer failed by WiFi. Still no signs that something is actually missing.

  • I deleted all the activity files and then tried to WiFi sync. It failed, so there must be something else

It gets as far as saying "Transfer in progress" then the blue square with the G in the center appears and doesn't go away until I swipe it. I guess this is just another feature that I won't use because it''s broke.

I give up, this watch seems like good hardware, but the software and updates etc, have ruined it. I have spent way too much time playing with this thing after every update.

  • Hi Sara,

I updated to SW version 7.20 and still can't update/sync GPS over Wi-Fi. Still getting red "Transfer Failed", after initially saying "Transfer in progress".

Both 7.10 and 7.20 have messed up my Amazon Music function/files. Took hours to reset and download my playlists to play offline. Never had this issue *ever*, until 7.10 was pushed.

I love my Garmin Vivoactive 4s, purchased back in February 2020. However, when the time comes to replace it, I doubt I'll purchase another Garmin. It's hugely concerning that Garmin updates can literally break vital functions on my watch.

Currently, having to fire up my laptop, connect watch to laptop, to use Garmin Express to update watch's CPE/GPS before heading out for a run. What a faff!

Whereas previously, took less than 30 seconds to update 4s' CPE/GPS directly via Wi-Fi router. My 4s has never been able to update via Garmin Connect Phone App. Wi-Fi was my workaround, after hours, upon hours, of fruitless discussions with Garmin Support when purchasing the watch.

This latest disaster smacks a little of the previous ransomware attack, which also almost bricked my 4s.

    Yours Sincerely,

Julie: A Very Disgruntled Garmin User.

  • Since 1-2 Weeks i always get "Transfer Failed".

Befor it shows up from time to time...

  • Anyone please verify this.

After 2 weeks only "transfer failed" i deleted all *.txt files in \GARMIN\EVNTLOGS\ and the CPE.BIN in \GARMIN\RemoteSW\

Now i can sync WiFi with transfer succed.

  • I tried to delete the same files, and tried a WiFi sync. Got "transfer failed" as always, and the CPE was now changed from "current" to "missing". Then I had a USB sync from my laptop. CPE changed back to "current". Tried a new WiFi sync, and it succeeded. Seems like the old CPE was disturbing the WiFi sync somehow.

  • I just did what you suggested.

Then I sync'd with GE, disconnected and tried WiFi.

It worked, first time in weeks.
Now to see if it keeps working.

  • Where do you see the status of the CPE?

  • Settings - System - About - scroll all the way down.
