Battery drain, backlight gesture not working, and step count not working

My Vivoactive 4s has had multiple issues that began about 3 days ago:

  1. Battery drain: from 100% full charge, when I unplug it, the battery goes down to zero in about 4 or 5 hours, just wearing it normally around the house (no GPS, activity, etc)
  2. The backlight gesture isn't working but when I touch it, it turns in with no issues
  3. Step count has not counted any steps (currently at zero after the factory reset)

I noticed all 3 of these issues at the same time. I've performed resets (default settings and resetting data and settings), left it plugged in for a day, left it plugged in for a couple of hours while off, still having the issue. I am hoping another software update might fix it but wanted to ask here as well.

I'm currently on software version 6.90.

  • The issue has been fixed! Thought I'd document that here in case someone else happens upon the same issue:

    1. The battery issue sort of resolved itself, I noticed it was draining slower and slower each day and by three days, it was still draining slightly faster than usual but I could get a full days' worth of use. I did plug in the watch to charge for a full day, with it on, but can't be sure that helped at all.
    2. The backlight gesture issue and pedometer count was fixed after the battery draining slowed. I read on another thread about toggling the activity tracking off/on. I had my activity tracking on, turned it off, then turned off my watch. Waited about two minutes, turn watch back on, then turned on activity tracking. I also toggled the auto activity start off/on, as well as the move alert off/on.

And now I'm back in business! Gesture backlight works, pedometer works. I think the key thing was to turn off activity tracking, turn off the watch, then turn it back on to reset that function. Resetting the watch may not reset the activity tracking in the same way.
