Alcohol high heart rate

Hey guys,

My 7 day RHR is 56 and during work it tends to fluctuate between 60 and 85 depending on what I’m doing (work in an office job).

im starting to get a little concerned with my heart rate when I drink alcohol. When I’m just sitting around relaxing and chatting, it just to between 110 and 140 and stays there. Has anyone else got this and should I be concerned? Thinking about getting it checked but don’t know if I should!

  • Elevated heart rate after consuming alcohol is normal, although in your case it seems a bit extreme. Next time verify by an alternative method if your heart rate is indeed that high, as it is possible, that your watch's indication is inaccurate.

  • Good idea to check a different watch - I do check my pulse and it’s always racing when drinking. I looked this morning and my heart rate was between 90 and 105 when sleeping after drinking. Again this seems very high considering usually it’s between 48 and 65 over night. Seems like I might have an intolerance to something in the alcohol maybe.

This doesn't have to be a watch. Just touch your carotid artery with your fingers and count looking at a stopwatch. This will give you an idea if your heart rate is indeed that high or if there's something wrong with how the watch measures it.

For your reference, my normal resting heart rate is about 58 bpm. After two glasses of wine it can get as high as 80 bpm for a couple hours. I never tried larger amounts of alcohol.
