With the increasing number of people taking to open water swimming would it be possible for watches like vivoactive range to have this as an option with gos to replace golf please?

I have a vivoactive 4s because I find the other ranges too large on my wrist.  But I do open water swimming and am having to use a run option to log into the GPS function which isn't  accurate for what I am doing. Would it be possible to provide an open water swim option with GPS, strokes, distance, time etc for the vivoactive range. If it could be made as an option that could be swapped with another sport that you Don't use ie golf or indoor track that would help. Many thanks.

  • There's a CIQ app for this on the va4 and I've never used it, but even with that, it's not just adding the sport.  GPS has to be a bit smarter with your arm being under water at times, as with an external HRM, there is a "batch" option where the HR is sent to the watch at the end of the activity as the water can impack the signal in the water.  Generally, Open Water Swim is only an option of Tri/multi sport devices like the higher end forerunners and Fenix.

  • It is easily possible, but Garmin avoids it to make users buy more expensive watches.

  • Check out the new Garmin Forerunner 255.
