Customizing Data Screens - Difference between Timer & Elapsed?

Hi can anyone tell me the difference between the Timer and Elapsed parameters available for use in the activity data screens? I've looked for a list of definitions in the manual and online but cannot find anything.

Timer is your activity time, excluding pauses.
Elapsed is your activity time, including pauses.

e.g. say you start at 9:00, pause at 10:00, and resume at 10:10.
At 11:00, Timer will be 1:50 and Elapsed will…
